Getting the "BESST" message out: how to spread the word
and
Baby's Easy Safe Sleep Training (BESST)

Animated Crescent Moon

PROJECT GOAL

We are looking for BESST Trainers. Could you be one? We would like to extend to you a special invitation to attend an exciting free training opportunity being offered by the North Carolina Healthy Start Foundation! This two-part training is designed to promote infant safe sleep practices among families at highest risk for SIDS. It will give you hands-on strategies and tips to "spread the word" through social marketing, community education and media outreach as well as a better understanding of ways to reduce related infant deaths in your community.

TRAINING ACTIVITIES

The first part of the program, Getting the BESST Message Out: how to spread the word, will include a session on "Getting to know us" to provide local and state resources to help with your community based organization. We will discuss how to recruit local community members to your trainings and how to spread infant mortality reduction messages in hospitals and beyond.

The second part of the program, Baby's Easy Safe Sleep Training (BESST), is a free "Train the Trainer" workshop to increase SIDS risk reduction awareness and promote safe sleep practices among those at highest risk, specifically African Americans and Native Americans throughout North Carolina. You will receive an educational tool (flipchart), a baby doll, a sleep sack, a thermometer and a tote bad to assist in your trainings.

Remember, it's all free!

The training is open to anyone! Local health educators, community educators, SIDS counselors, parents and childcare providers are especially encouraged to participate. Please spread the word! We need your help in recruiting participants to attend the trainings. They are located regionally across the state; however, you are welcome to attend which training is most convenient. A limited number of travel stipends are available.

Spanish flip charts are now available.
