Event generates $30,000 in challenge gifts

On September 29th, 2015 close to 100 people joined the North Carolina Healthy Start Foundation’s board and staff at Brier Creek Country Club to celebrate the agency’s 25th anniversary, and to honor two of our visionary leaders: Dr. Charles A. Sanders and Dr. Stuart Bondurant. We are grateful for their continued leadership and support and hope you will join them in support of our work and North Carolina’s families.

Following this event, two challenge gifts were offered: $20,000 will be matched by Dr. Charles and Ann Sanders and $10,000 by Frank, Jr. and Julia Daniels. To help us meet the Sanders’ and Daniels’ generous challenge, please donate online now!

Attendees of the event included original board members, community leaders, public health colleagues, supporters and friends. You can see many of them in the photos here.

Many thanks to our reception sponsors: UNC Health Care, Pepsi Bottling Ventures, Smith Anderson, First Citizens Bank, Grubb Ventures, Dupree and Webb, Joseph C. Woodard Printing and Marketing Enterprises of Western NC.

Since the agency’s inception, 10,930 more babies are alive than would have been if the state’s infant mortality rate remained the worst in the nation (as it was in 1988). Progress is being made but there is more work to do.
