North Carolina Healthy Start Foundation

January 30, 1999 – January 31, 2017

It was set up to exist for only 5 years. Now, after 27 years of providing statewide leadership (resulting in a 42% decrease in our state’s infant mortality rate), the North Carolina Healthy Start Foundation has begun to transition our programs to other agencies* and will close our doors, effective January 31, 2017.

This decision was not made lightly or quickly. While much has been accomplished in the last 27 years, the need still remains. Unfortunately, sustaining this work has become more challenging.

We are grateful to have served North Carolina families and communities for so long, and to have worked closely with thousands of you: health, human service and childcare providers; community-based agencies; businesses, hospitals and the NC Division of Public Health. Together we made a difference!

None of this would have been possible without the many stakeholders, donors, grantors, staff and board members who contributed their time, talent and treasure over the years. A big THANK YOU to all – whether you served on the original Governor’s Commission on Reduction of Infant Mortality or one of our advisory groups, partnered with us programmatically, received a community grant, attended a training, used our educational materials and website, or contributed because you care.

Your commitment to North Carolina families is strong. So is ours. We look forward to working with you through other outlets, to make sure no more North Carolina babies die for preventable reasons.

* Names of specific agencies will be available in early 2017.
