Condoms are a barrier method of birth control that is used by the man
to prevent sperm from getting into the vagina.
- The condom covers the man's penis, so sperm cannot reach the woman's
egg
- Latex condoms, with consistent and correct usage, also prevent the spread of
sexually transmitted diseases and HIV, the virus that causes AIDS
- Can be bought in a drugstore without a prescription
- Prevent pregnancy even better when used with sperm-killing foams
or creams. However, if HIV/STD exposure is likely, talk to your healthcare provider about
the use of sperm-killing foams, creams or lubricants.
