In support of the breastfeeding awareness campaign, the NC Healthy Start Foundation developed two television commercials based on recommendations from women and men in Eastern NC. The commercials feature moms and their significant others from eastern North Carolina who share the reasons why they breastfeed or support breastfeeding:

Latonya
Latonya: "I breastfeed because I want my baby to have a stronger immune system."


Deanna
Deanna: "Reduces my risk of diabetes."


Erin
Erin: "Reduces my risk of breast cancer."


Annie
Annie: "Helps me get back in shape."


Leah
Leah: "Helps my baby be a healthy weight."

The commercials also feature a grandmother with twin granddaughters:

Jessie
Jessie: "My granddaughters are breastfed. Nothing but the best for them."

And a Dad:

Warren
Warren: "I support breastfeeding because it's great for mom and baby."

The commercials will air in the Greenville/ New Bern television market beginning May 3, 2010. They will air on the following stations:

  • WNCT (CBS)
  • WNCT (CW)
  • WITN (NBC)
  • WITN (MyWx)
  • WCTI (ABC)
  • WFXI (Fox)
  • Suddenlink (Cable)

Educational Pamphlet

Breastfeeding BrochureAn Opens in new window educational pamphlet was also developed which highlights the many benefits of breastfeeding. It features many of the same individuals who appear in the commercials. The brochure will be distributed to a variety of WIC offices and health departments in eastern NC. It promotes CARE-LINE (1-800-662-7030) and the North Carolina Healthy Start Foundation's web site for more information.
