Question:
Is there a limit to the number of children in a family who
can receive Health Check (Medicaid)/NC
Health Choice coverage?
Answer:
No, there is no limit. All children who qualify can receive Health
Check (Medicaid)/ NC Health
Choice coverage.
Question:
Can I choose which program my child is in?
Answer:
No. Parents cannot choose the program. Your application
is first reviewed to see if your child is eligible for Health
Check (Medicaid). If your child does not qualify
for Health Check (Medicaid),
the application will be reviewed to see if your child
is eligible for NC Health Choice.
Question:
I lost my child's health insurance card. How can I get a
new one?
Answer:
For Health Check (Medicaid):
Call your local
Department of Social Services and they will issue a
replacement card for you to use until a new one arrives
in the mail.
For NC Health Choice:
Call Blue Cross Blue Shield N.C.'s Health Choice Line at
1- 800-422-4658.
Question:
I am a grandparent. Can I apply for my grandchild who lives
with me?
Answer:
Yes. If your grandchild lives in your home, you can apply
for them. You do not need to submit proof of your own
income, unless you have legally adopted your grandchild.
Contact your local
DSS for more information.
Question:
Can a divorced father or mother apply for Health
Check (Medicaid) or NC Health
Choice in order to meet their court-ordered child
support requirements?
Answer:
No. If the court order says the non-custodial parent must
provide private health insurance, then he or she must
buy private health insurance. However, until the private
health insurance is in effect, the custodial parent may
apply for Health Check (Medicaid)/NC
Health Choice.
