N.C. Healthy Start Foundation Welcomes New Board Members
Local Leaders Join Effort to Reduce N.C.’s High Infant Mortality
(Raleigh, NC) – The North Carolina Healthy Start Foundation announces the appointment of new board members; Theresa H. Esposito, former member of the N.C. House of Representatives, Renee Lutz Maxwell, owner of Renee Maxwell Communications and Frankie Perry, Senior Vice President and Personal Trust Advisor for Wachovia Wealth Management. The new board members will play a significant role in advancing the policies and programs of the Foundation, which conducts statewide, bilingual public education campaigns to reduce infant death and illness and improve the health of women and children.
"We are delighted to be able to draw upon the talents and experience of these three new directors," says Janice Freedman, the Foundation's executive director. "Each is dedicated to our mission, and their overall commitment to excellence will be valuable in helping us improve the health and well-being of women and infants across North Carolina."
Esposito is a retired legislator who spent 18 years serving in the N.C. House of Representatives and served as the Minority Whip. She was elected member-at-large to the National Federation of Republican Women for 2006-2007 and serves as a member of the Council for Allied Health Advisory Board. Over the years she has advocated for those with autism and developmental disabilities and was appointed by President Reagan to the National Commission for Children.
Maxwell is a private consultant who manages marketing communications projects and public relations for a variety of clients, including Fortune 250 companies, non-profits, churches and small manufacturing operations. Maxwell has previously provided marketing and communications services for Sunstates Securities and Progress Energy. Her business, Renee Maxwell Communications is based in Fletcher, North Carolina. She serves on the Board of Directors for Governor's Western Residence and participates in community activities with the United Way, her church, and the PTA.
Perry is Senior Vice President and Trust Advisor with Wachovia Wealth Management. She also serves as an Assistant Secretary of the Wachovia Corporation. Perry has served and continues to serve on the board of many civic organizations in Durham. Currently, she is a Membership Chairman of the WTVD-TV News Channel 11 Minority Advisory Committee and is the Chairman of the Mentor Committee that serves Schools of Business at North Carolina Central University, Shaw University and St. Augustine’s College.
